Should a Krishna devotee satisfy the Navagrahas?
A Girl devotee who requested anonymity asked like this:
“Hi there – I would like to know what I should be doing for the following concerns:
(1) I am a follower & believer of Lord Krishna.
(2) Recently, I went to check my horoscope. It was being mentioned I need to put lamp for one of the 9 planets deity for my career advancement & marriage. I am pretty confused as I pray to Lord Krishna n I chant Hare Krishna mantra. Is it good enough or must I put lamp for Lord Krishna?

Those who like to lead their life with some material goals should see horoscope. Those who like to detach from this material life need not see the horoscopes . What type you are?
Actually, putting lamps for Krishna is good. But, the effect of NAVAGRAHAS will be NIL only in the case of detached devotees, ie TRUE ANYASIS whose mind is detached from material attachments and FULLY attached to Krishna.

Initial stage neophite devotees are better NOT TO COMPARE THEMSELVES with such advanced devotees, ie, uthama adhikaris.
Srila Prabhupada has advised seeing horoscopes before marriage. That means he has advised respecting those NAVAGRAHAS, as the horoscopes are the network of navagrahas only.
So, we can not altogether neglect astrology. H.H.Bhanu Swami Maharaj, a disciple of Srila Prabhupada is also a very good vedic astrology scholar. So, we can not neglect the navagrahas.
Of course, if you surrender to Krishna FULLY, you need not see horoscopes. But, it is not sure whether we have come to that stage or not. So, we should not think ourselves as advanced devotees and avoid such recommendations.
Even in Bhagavad Gita, Krishna has said that people satisfy the celestials and get benefits from them and even such benefits come from Krishna only.

So, it is not wrong in seeing horoscope. If he says that there is any dosha, marry a girl who has the same type of dosha. That will be good. For example, ANKARAKA DOSHA boy can marry an ANKARAKA DOSHA girl. The dosha will be nullified.
What are these doshas?
For example, ANKARAKA DOSHA means the state of potency and emotions of the person. If a person has more potency, he/ she will be disturbed by more sense related thoughts. So, if we match the person with the same state of person who also has more such desires, they will live happily.
If a person of more desires is matched with a person of less desires, the marriage fails. That is why, the astrologers speak about the Ankaraka Dosha and other doshas.
If the person has Venus and Mars in his 7th house, we must match him with the similar horoscope. Because, he will have extraordinary body disturbances. If we match him with a girl with weak Venus and Mars, that marriage life fails because she may not have more interest in enjoyments.

I got the dates/ times of birth of some of the devotees who fell from their devotional practices in the middle, for an astrological research. I found the Venus and/or Mars very powerful in their horoscopes and hence they were under the strong hold of maya that disturbs their senses and hence they could not continue their devotional practices. If you check the horoscope of any fallen devotee, you can see this Venus and/or Mars factor.
That is why, we should not postpone marriage in the case of such girls and boys. If the Venus and/or Mars is very powerful in their horoscopes, it is better to give them in marriage in early twenties itself because, they will not be disturbed and deviated innocently.
If this is the case, how can we neglect astrological advices? Horoscope Astrology is a science, not mythology and it is part of Vedas. If you fortunately get a good astrologer, you will get the right and bold advice. Many bogus half cooked astrologers are cheating the people with improper & Software dictated predictions that affects the reputation of this sastra.
Ok, what should you now?
Yes, (i) If you chant 16 rounds of Hare Krishna Maha Manthra a day, (ii) follow devotional services properly and also (iii) have developed sufficient material detachment and (iv) attachment to Krishna , you need not do any other Parihars for any dosha. Are you doing 16 rounds a day and fulfilling the above conditions? If not, do that.

Your doshas may not affect you if you —-
(i) offencelessly chant Hare Krishna 16 rounds a day
(ii) you give up desires for material pleasures and start to act to satisfy Krishna; In other words, you develop attachments with Krishna and lead your material life just as a duty, not for sense gratification;
(iii) accept a guru from a bonafide sampradhaya who is capable of purifying his disciples and protect him.
(iv) stop doing prohibited acts and do everything that are permitted by sastras. And, follow 4 regulative principles strictly.
(v) take only prasadam offered to Krishna and offer aratis and worship to Krishna.
If you follow these FIVE GOLDEN RULES, you need not do any rituals for navagrahas and celestials. Among the above five rules, CHANTING Krishna’s Holy Names is primary and there is no excuse in it.

Those who are under the shelter of Krishna need not satisfy any other deities. But, ensure that you are strictly following the rules of Krishna Consciousness as mentioned above.
If you are weak in your saadhanas and the above golden rules, effects of karma will still be there and hence the navagrahas will affect you.
So, BE STRONG & TRUTHFUL IN THE ABOVE FIVE RULES. Then, Forget about Navagrahas and horoscopes.
If you are not upto that level, such a Krishna devotee should satisfy the Navagrahas.
TAIL PIECE:
It is my advice to all, in general. If you are a serious devotee following all rules of K.C, try your best to marry only a SIMILAR LEVEL devotee following the rules to make your life FAVOURABLE TO FOLLOW DEVOTIONAL LIFE. If you happen to marry a non-devotee, make him/ her a devotee at the earliest. This will reduce the misunderstandings.
If a serious devotee marries a non devotee and do not make him/her a devotee, that devotee will not be able to continue his/ her devotional way of life. Hence this advice.
