Does one face more sense agitations after starting devotion?
A Girl devotee (Name hidden) asked like this:
“Hare Krishna. Does sense agitations become uncontrollable after entering devotion or do you have to forcefully control it? Is the “4th regulative principle that sex is only for procreation?” Is this true in today’s age?”
REPLY:
Not so.
During the initial stage of following devotion, senses may agitate more because that person is changing his priorities in life.
Previously he was involving more in the thoughts related to sense gratification like eating more, having s…x more, etc.
When he starts to chant the Lord’s Names and follow the other devotional practcies, his mind find both the devotion and sense gratification interesting.
He prefers both the devotion and sense gratification during the initial stage of following devotion.
However, when he starts to associate with the advanced devotees more and start to read the literatures on Krishna more, he starts to gradually lose interest in sense gratification because he has started to taste a higher and spiritual taste than the sense gratification.
So, his interest in sense gratification will gradually come down.
More involvement in devotional practices and association and reading, more will be his devotional growth and loess will be his desire to satisfy senses.
So, as said in your question, he need not take any efforts to control his senses. He has to just continue to follow devotional practices without bothering about increased desire to gratify senses.
When one starts to taste the eternal higher taste, he will lose his interest in the short lived lower tastes.
When we draw a big line near a small line, the new big line will become prominent.
Similarly, when we start to feed the topmost spiritual taste of the mercy of Krishna, the temporary taste of sense gratification will go gradually.
You may be in this initial stage of following devotion. That is why you are confusing yourself.
These agitations are natural while following devotion.
Be clear in onething:
Krishna is the Superior taste. No other taste can even go near to him.
So, when we follow Krishna consciousness sincerely, not casually, we will lose interest in sense gratification.
We would have attained such a level of realization that material pleasures are just temporary and serving Krishna is the eternal pleasure.
Now, you may be in the initial stage of following devotion or casual following of devotion. When we start to clean the house after a long period, more dusts will come out. Similarly, during the initial period of devotion, more impurities will come out and we will be purified faster.
After some period of cleaning, the impurities will go away. So, you would have been purified and become eligible to go back to Krishna and serve there eternally.
Hope you are clear.
