Why Divorce is not allowed in Indian Scriptures? – a Crystal Clear Explanation!
There is a deeper reason for that.
Though these reasons may not be liked by the readers, it is my duty to convey the contents as it is to atleast know the reasons.
Our Indian approach to spirituality is deeply connected to the karma concept.
There are two ways of clearing the karma:
(1) By facing the reactions of your past karma patiently and clearing them.
(2) By not facing them, but totally detaching from the material attachments and surrendering to Krishna and chanting His holy names (Preferably accepting a spiritual master).
So, now, it is clear.
Let us see the both the ways:
CLEARING KARMA BY FACING THE REACTIONS
If you like to divorce the spouse because of tortures, you are escaping from the reactions for your karma of torturing your spouse in your previous birth.
If you like to divorce the spouse because of impotency, you are escaping from the reactions for your karma of not having physical relations with your spouse making her/ him struggle in your previous birth.
If you like to divorce the spouse because of his not having a good job, you are escaping from the reactions for your karma of allowing your spouse to suffer without earning in your previous birth.
If you like to divorce the spouse because of his not controlling his parents from involving in your family affairs, you are escaping from the reactions for your karma of causing the troubles in your marital life by involving your parents in your previous birth.
Thus, we are escaping from the karmic reactions by not facing the reactions of our past deeds.
Then, what will happen if we escape by divorcing our spouse?
SURELY YOU WILL GET ANOTHER BIRTH.
AND, YOU WILL GET A SIMILAR SPOUSE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN YOUR NEXT BIRTH ALSO.
So, the similar issues will continue in your next birth also. That will be more severe and the karma network will give a situation in which you can’t escape from those problems.
Or, you will get a birth with weak decision making powers so that you will fear to part your spouse and face all the tortures.
If you face all the tortures or issues now itself, you are successfully facing the reactions of your karma.
So, next birth will be a happier life with good spouse.
That is why, Indian scriptures do not encourage divorce. They want us to become pure by facing the karma of issues in married life.
Our ancestors are wiser than us.
Though their rules are like bitter pills, they do only good for us.
CLEARING KARMA THROUGH SPIRITUAL MEANS
If you decide to divorce the spouse, if you remain peaceful leading a materialistic way of life, the karma will act again in the next birth.
So, you should stop desiring for material enjoyments and comforts and lead a life like an instrument in the hands of the Lord.
You should not run behind pleasures and enjoyments.
You should control all your senses effectively.
Since controlling the senses is difficult, we should involve them in Krishna’s service by reading this post and seriously involve in devotional way of life.
Your remaining life should be lived for Krishna alone.
Worship Him, satisfy Him with your loving devotional practices, chant His names and remain in His thoughts all the time.
Develop material detachment and closely attach with Krishna.
If you do so, your karma will be relieved. You can even go back to Krishna.
Otherwise, you get a painful next birth again with the similar problems with more intensity.
Now, decide, whether to learn to bear the issues in married life or escape from the same.
Or, if you decide to escape, decide whether to live for Krishna or face the next birth with similar problems.
Hope this article has given a clear reason behind the barrier put by the scriptures in divorcing the spouse.
I too suggest divorce in certain severe cases, but, I always recommend them to seriously involve in devotional way of life to escape from karmic reactions again.
The point is: You can divorce in severe cases, but, instead of marrying again, you should seriously involve in devotion.
In case you decide to marry again, again, you should lead a devotional way of life with the spouse. If you lead a materialistic way of life with the second spouse, you get another birth with similar problems.
This is the secret behind divorce as per the karma concept.
