Saptamatrikas including Brahmani – A to Z Details!

A male devotee (Name hidden) asked like this:

“How a satvik goddesses (Brahmani) harm any human on the order of a jealous man who worships her.”

REPLY:

Goddess Brahmani is not a Satvik Goddess.

First know that.

Goddess Brahmani is One of the Saptamatrikas (Seven divine mothers).

They are mostly associated with Shiva and Shakti. There is another view that Brahmani is connected to Brahma that has given her the name Brahmani.

The Saptamatrikas are:

Brahmani,
Vaishnavi,
Maheshwari,
Kaumari,
Varahi,
Indrani and
Chamundi.

(Later, Yogeshwari, created by the Lord Shiva was also added with them making the number eight.)

Varaha Purana, Kurma Purana and the Mahabharata have some mention about these Saptamatrikas.

It is believed that Lord Siva’s Consort Shakti incarnated as these to defeat thousands of demons called “Anadhakas” who took birth from the blood of a demon called “Andhaka”.

(What if my parents want me chanting manthras of other gods with Krishna? READ HERE!)

WHO IS DEMON ANDHAKA?

Andhaka was considered to be the third son of Lord Shiva.

Andhaga had got a boon that thousands of Andhakas would appear if his body spills a single drop of blood.

When Andhaka tried to take away Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva fought with him and injured him.

So, thousands of Andhakas appeared from the blood split from his body.

Then, Lord Shiva created Yogeshwari (eighth Matrika) and  Saptamatrikas appeared from Shakti.

Saptamatrikas are considered to rule the material attachments and emotions such as desire, anger, pride, illusion, envy, etc.

So, their worship is said to help to get rid of such emotions.

However, Saptamatrikas are not Vedic Gods and there is no mention about them in vedic texts. Instead, they have some mention in later puranas and also in mahabharatha that are later write ups after Vedas.

Since they are the incarnations of hakti, they are also worshipped in different parts of country in different ways.

(16 KALAS OF KRISHNA/ VISHNU! KALAS OF OTHER GODS & LIVING BEINGS! READ HERE!)

Since they are the incarnations of Shakti and compared similar to KALI, they can not be Sattvik Gods.  Instead, they may be Thamo guna goddesses.

That is why, they are used for some destructive purposes also like you said in some parts of country.

But, they are not meant for that. It is the misuse of these devathas by the people.

Though they misuse, the humans getting affected by them may be just an illusion or coincidence.

Some tantriks can misuse anyone to act against others.  This misuse is also like that.

But, they are meant to destroy the demonic qualities existing in men.

For Krishna’s devotees, no need to worry about any aggressive goddesses as Krishna is the brother of Shakti and Shakti’s incarnations including Saptamatrikas including Brahmani.

So, the devotees of Krishna are on the path of detachment and hence these Saptamatrikas including Brahmani and other gods can not disturb them.  They may utmost try to pull us to adopt attached way of life that can be countered by our attachment with Krishna.
