10 SCIENTIFIC REASONS TO AVOID MEAT EATING AS A REGULATIVE PRINCIPLE!
The four regulative principles recommended for the devotees of Krishna are:
Please Remember! The following four regulative Principles are the primary requirement for every devotee and failing to follow them will definitely delay the advancement in devotion:
(1) No meat eating : You can read the post about this HERE.
(2) No intoxication : You can read the post about this HERE
(3) No gambling : You can read the post about this here: HERE
(4) No illicit Affairs : You can read the post about this HERE
(5) You can also read 10 REASONS WHY DISCIPLINE AND REGULATIVE PRINCIPLES ARE COMPULSORY FOR THE DEVOTEES HERE!
(1) DON’T EAT ANIMALS FOR CONTROLING THEIR POPULATION:
Many people who follow MEAT EATING say that if we don’t eat animals, the balance of the Men and Animals will be affected since the number of animals will become more!
This is childish!
Krishna is absolutely brilliant than us! He has created wild animals for this purpose! They will maintain the population of animals by eating them!
(2) ANIMALS DO NOT VIOLATE GOD’s LAWS LIKE WE DO:
Every living being is expected to live as per the arrangements by Krishna for them!
In Krishna’s creations, every animal eats only what it is expected to eat!
Tigers never eat grass!
Even an elephant that is the strongest animal, does not eat meat.
A cow never eats a goat/ dog!
Man?
He eats everything he sees! He eats all animals, all birds, snakes, even toasted ants & cockroaches!
He never allows others free! He needs change in everything!
He does not bother about rules of God! He must be satisfied. Thats all!
Krishna has given variety of tasty vegetables for him!
(3) HUMAN TEETH IS DESIGNED TO CRUSH ONLY THE VEGETABLES:
Yes. See the teeth of wild animals. Krishna has given them sharp teeth that can easily cut the flesh of the animals.
See the human teeth.
They are very soft and even when we chew gums for long time or brush forcefully for a few years, our teeth lose their enamel coating and becomes sensitive to hot and cold drinks.
The human teeth can easily chew the vegetables.
From this arrangement of Krishna we must understand that we are expected to eat only the vegetables, not the meat.
(4) MEAT DEGRADES OUR BASIC NATURE ITSELF:
Every person has a mix of gunas (modes). Depending on the percentage of every guna, one’s character is determined.
For example, if the Satva Guna is dominated and the Rajo and Thamo Gunas are in a dormant state, he behaves as a good person. Whereas, if any of the other gunas are dominated and the Satva Guna is in a dormant state, then he behaves as a fool or quarrelsome or an emotional person.
The non-vegetarian foods are rich in Cholesterol and they increase the domination of Rajo and thamo Guna (modes of passion and ignorance)!
This cholesterol causes many diseases and problems like cardio vascular diseases including the heart attacks & many disorders!
These non-vegetarian foods increase the emotions including the excessive desires to violate and anger, both creating problems in life!
You might have seen that most of the vegetarians are soft natured, with less agitations! They don’t stand first in creating problems! They are mostly graceful!
Therefore, a devotee should avoid them!
(5) THINK OF THE SLAUGHTER HOUSES BEFORE TOUCHING THE MEAT:
If you see what happens in the slaughter shops, you won’t eat non-vegetarian foods!
The animal is silently eating the grass without knowing that it is going to be killed within the next few minutes, after the existing stock of meat is exhausted!
When its stomach is full, the slaughter man catches it and kills it. The animal cries helplessly without getting protected by anyone! The man then cuts it in to pieces and gives it to us!
Since those animals are weaker than us, they die helplessly!
Krishna has given us the Sixth Sense, and hence, we develop suitable protection mechanism for us and protect ourselves from the animals that are stronger than us! But, these weaker animals die because they can not develop mechanisms to protect themselves!
Therefore, just because they are weaker than us, we should not kill them! We may kill an animal only if they are dangers to our life! Allow harmless animals to live freely!
(6) EGG IS A NON VEGETARIAN FOOD:
“You advice us to avoid eating flesh, OK. But, what about eggs? Many people say that the eggs are vegetarians!”
But, A.C.Bakthi Vedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON movement has said that we should avoid eating egg as unfertilized egg is considered as the menstruation of the hen.
(Hen’s egg is similar to the egg of women who excrete unfertilized eggs every month as menstruation. Similarly the hens also excrete their eggs as menstruation!).
H.H.Bakthi Vikas Swami, a spiritual master in ISKCON Says: “These foods are saturated with the modes of passion & ignorance and hence, can’t be offered to God”
(7) KRISHNA IS ALSO A VEGETARIAN:
If we avoid these Non-vegetarian foods, we can improve in our Krishna Conscious life faster, because, Krishna Himself is a vegetarian.
Krishna advices in Bhagavad Gita to offer vegetarian foods only, not meat!
Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita (9-26):
“If One offers Me with Love and Devotion, a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, I will accept it!”.
Since Krishna Prefers Vegetarian foods, we also should eat vegetarian foods because our source is Krishna and hence we too look like Krishna to some extent.
The only living being that looks like God is man. Therefore, we should be vegetarians like Krishna.
(8) PURITY OF MIND AND BODY IS DECIDED BY THE FOOD:
Scriptures say: “Ahara suddhou satva suddhi”. That means that if the food is pure, his satvas (Body and mind) will also be pure!”
The health and nature of a person’s Body and Mind depends on what he eats! Non-vegetarian foods develop thamo & rajo Gunas in our body and mind and hence we will be induced to commit offences!
(9) VEGETABLES ARE TASTIER THAN MEAT:
Krishna has given variety of tasty vegetables for us! Why should we go for animals? Think!
If we take a food that is not eaten by Krishna, that means you are deviating from the path of Krishna.
The vegetables are tasty and soft. It gives a good character. Whereas the meat is fleshy and hard to be chewed and digested.
(10) DO NOT TAKE A FOOD THAT CAN NOT BE OFFERED TO KRISHNA:
As said in the point –(7), Krishna is a vegetarian. Therefore we too should follow Krishna by consuming vegetarian foods only.
You may ask: “Is it not sinful when we kill plants?”
Is Killing Plants sinful? Yes! Killing plants is also sinful. But, as Krishna says us to kill, it is sinless!
How?
Arjuna killed relatives, friends and gurus in battle field as a Kshatriya (warrior), because, Krishna told him to kill all the enemies since it is the Kshatria Dharma (Rules of warriors)!
Since Krishna has said that He prefers the vegetarian foods, you can kill the vegetables! No sin will be there! See, Most of the plants do not die if we pluck vegetables from them! They continue to live, except a few types of plants!
Since Krishna allowed offering plants to Him and recommended us to eat, we can eat plants.
Even milk comes from an animal. But, since Krishna has permitted us to have milk, we drink milk. Because, whatever Krishna said in Bhagavad Gita is the dharma for all of us. No need for any other dharma.
It is true that the vegetable foods also are the karmic foods because it involves the killing of many insects or the plant itself. In addition to that, the thoughts and consciousness of the persons who cook the food also add some negative or material vibrations on the food.
Therefore we should offer that food to Krishna. When Krishna eats that food and gives back to us as Prasadam, that food is relieved from karma and negative vibrations of the cook.
Therefore offering the food to Krishna is important.
However, we can’t offer ‘Rajo and Thamo Guna foods’ like meat, onion, garlic, etc., to Krishna. Therefore, we should not eat a food that contains such Thamo and Rajo Guna materials that is not suitable to be offered to Krishna.
CONCLUSION:
Hope you are convinced with all these ten reasons to avoid eating meat.
There are variety of foods made up of vegetables. Cook them for Krishna with love, offer that food to Krishna and then honour it with a devotional consciousness.
If anyone continues to eat the meat even after reading this article by me, I pray to Krishna to show extra mercy on him/ her!
