Why going out after 10pm & brooming after 6pm are prohibited?

A male devotee (Name hidden) asked like this:

“I have some question in my mind, and don’t find any answer. Can you please help me?  There are a lot of superstition which exist, I read some on your website but want to know more if this following is true or have an available basis. Can you please enlighten us?

(1) It is said that we can not use broom after 6pm, and there is a reason with Lakshmi apparently.
(2) If we come home late at night, after 10pm or midnight or after, we have to enter in our house with back to the door.
(3) If one flower fall on the ground  when it was carried, is it true that we can not offer it to the Lord? Is it not correct to wash it before offering?

(1) Every day is split as 30 muhurthas.

For example, Morning 6.00 to 6.48 is called Rudra Muhurtha.  Early morning 04.24 to 05.12 is the peak period of Brahma muhurtha that is the most auspicious muhurtha.

Similarly, evening 6.00 to 6.48 is called Girisa muhurtha that denotes the period of lifting of Govardana hills by Krishna. So, it is Krishna’s time and Lakshmi devi will also be there where Krishna is there.

After 6:00 p.m. and before 06.48pm in the evening, Lakshmi will be very active to bless her devotees.

It is the official timing in which Lakshmi Devi visits every house.  She will come and stay at our house after 6:00 p.m.

She will definitely visit our house if we have chanting habit because where Krishna’s names are chanted, there will be Lakshmi also.

So if we groom after 6:00 p.m. or between 6 and 6.48 pm, it is believed that Krishna and hence Lakshmi also will leave the house and hence the wealth of the house will come down because Lakshmi is the controller of wealth.

(2) After 10:00 p.m. and before 10.48p.m, it is called YAMA MUHURTHA and it is the inauspicious muhurtha. The ghosts take control of this world as per the scriptures. So, if we wander outside after 10:00 p.m. we may have to face the negative vibrations of the ghost that are wandering everywhere.

In older days, the people will settle at their houses at around 8:00 p.m. or maximum 9:00 p.m. They wind up all their activities by that time.

But nowadays, there is no difference between the day and night for the people.  Beauty parlours, hair cutting salon, etc., are kept open till even 11:00 p.m. Some roadside hotels function all the 24 hrs.

During the Yama muhurtha, ie, time of ghosts, the people should go to sleep closing the door without wandering on the streets.  This is what is recommended.

(3) When a flower falls on ground, it is not used for God because it loses its purity and is not destined for offering to the lord. It is destined to be used by the earth. Earth will consume everything in due course of time – some materials slowly and some fast.

As a mark of respect, we should offer only fresh things to Krishna.

Will you take eatable snacks or dish if they fall on ground? We will leave it as it is! Because it is not for us, but for earth.

Will we offer a fruit to Krishna if it falls on the ground? We will  not use it to the Lord even after cleaning that fruit.

Because if it falls down and is taken back and offered to Krishna, that means, we are offering a defective product.

Hope you are clear about why going out after 10pm & brooming after 6pm are prohibited.
