GAURA KISHORE DAS BABAJI – LIFE HISTORY IN DIARY FORM!

(1) Srila Gaura Kishore das Babaji – A great saint in the lineage of Gaudiya vaishnava tradition – Guru of Srila Bhakti Sidhanta Sarasvati who is the guru of HDG Bhakti Vedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.

(2) Considered to be the embodied incarnation of Sri Rupa-Sanatana Goswamis’ renounced form.

(3) He is a completely renounced maha purusha and paramahamsa.

(4) He was said to be born on 17.11.1838 in Vagyana village in Faridpur district in then Bengal (now in Bangladesh).

(5) He accepted the BABAJI life after leaving the grahastha life.

(6) When he was a grahastha, his name was Vamsi dasa.

(7) He married in young age as per the customs of those days and in short period, Srila Gaura Kishore Dasa Babaji’s wife died.

(8) Then, he left the grahastha life and took sanyasa.

(9) He then left for Vrndavana and took initiation from Sri Bhagavata Dasa Babaji, a disciple of Sri Jagannatha Dasa Babaji.

(10) Srila Gaura Kishore Dasa Babaji stayed in Vraja mandala for thirty years.

(11) Then he came to Mayapur.

(12) In 1893, The birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was inaugurated at the Shri Mayapur Yoga Pith.

(13) At that time, Sri Jagannath Das Babaji Maharaj ordered Srila Gaura Kishore Dasa Babaji to stay in Navadwip.

(14) He then stayed there till the end of his life.

(15) He strictly followed the order of Babaji/Paramahamsa life to the fullest.

(16) He accepted madhukari (biksha) from the people of navadvipa seeing them with the transcendental vision.

(17) He himself cooked in an abandoned clay bowl.

(18) Sometimes, he remained without food, drinking the water and mud of the Ganges.

(19) Though he could not eat, he was always chanting the Holy Names

(20) Thus, he lived as an example for how a sanyasi should live independent of others.

(21) Throughout his life, Srila Gaura Kishore Dasa Babaji lived as Mahaprabhu’s personal envoy.

(22) Gaura Kishore Dasa Babaji used to go to Bhaktivinoda Thakura’s home in Godrumadwipa, Svananda-sukhada-kunja

(23) There, he would listen Bhakti Vinoda thaakkura’s readings of the Srimad Bhagavatam and discuss Vaishnava theology with him.

(24) Getting impressed by Gaura Kishore Babaji’s extraordinary renunciation, pure devotion and attachment to the Lord, Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati met Srila Gaura Kishora Dasa Babaji in 1898AD at Svananda-sukhad-kunja in Godrumadwipa.

(25) In January 1900, Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakura took initiation from Gaura Kishore Das Babaji on the instructions of Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakur.

(26) The initiation was got by Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati by visiting many times to Gaura Kishore Das Babaji.

(27) Gaura Kishore Das Babaji had determined not to give initiation to anyone and he would never allow anyone to fall at his feet.

(28) During his third visit Gaura Kishore Das Babaji told Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati: “Virtuousness, scholarship and other qualities are not the means to attain the Lord. They do not give you any right to initiation.”

(29) However, seeing the determination of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati, during his 13th visit, he finally gave initiation by sprinkling the dudt of his lotus feet upon his head.

(29) Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati was Gaura Kishore Babaji’s only disciple. It is said that he was given the initiated name ‘Varsabhanavi devi daitya dasa’

(30) It is also said that Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura later took initiation into the sannyasa order by sitting down before a picture of Gaura Kishore dasa Babaji.

(31) It is said that he left this planet and entered the eternal pastimes of the Lord of the Lord on 17.11.1915.
