What you feel is too bad.

You can’t expect all the surroundings to be the devotees.  We have to practice devotion even from the fire.

During my initial days in ISKCON, a senior devotee requested us to chant for him since he likes to buy a car and is arranging money.  I asked him why he likes to buy a car since he is financially weak. He simply replied that while travelling by bus, he has to hear cinema songs in the speaker kept in the bus that disturbs his devotional mood and makes the mind materialistic. Therefore, he likes to buy a car to chant or think of Krishna while travelling.

We too chanted for him innocently. Then, he bought a car. He started to use that car even for going to nearby areas that can be reached even by walking. His monthly budget shot up for petrol, maintenance, etc.

One day, he, who was telling us that he had decided to take direct sanyasi after 10 years, suddenly fell in the love of a girl and then married her.

This was the effect of his buying a car for his silent practice of devotion. He bought the car to follow brahmacharya better, but, fell in love though he had a car.

The point is, if you have sincerity and dedication, you can practice devotion even amidst fire. If you always worry for the surroundings and other excuses, you can not practice devotion even if you go to a forest.

In your hostel, you have a friend from Christianity. Actually, most of the practices of both the religions are unique. Their messenger is also very satvic and merciful.  We follow picture and deity worship. They do not follow that. They too insist in chanting, diksha, etc in their own way of recommendations.

However, the target of both is the same. Pleasing the God.  She is not an atheist, but, a believer of Jesus Christ.

All the issues come in the family and the society ONLY BECAUSE OF IDENTITIES.  I am Hindu; I am Christian; I am Muslim. I am a Saivaite; I am a Vaishnava; I am a madhwa;  I am a Buddhist;  I am Brahmin, like that.

By claiming to belong to a SECTION OF SOCIETY AS A BRAND IDENTITY,  he develops a kind of hatred against other sects, groups and religions.

Only after seeing this much of differences among the people based on religion, race, etc, some reformers like J.Krishna murthy, Buddha, etc had to oppose such old systems of practice.

I think, all of you know a popular reformist PERIYAR E.V.RAMASAMY from Tamil Nadu who opposed and preached against dividing the people based on god, religion, caste, etc., and he fought hard to eradicate the social discrepancies. He also preached atheistic concepts vigorously.

One day, he was giving a speech in a public meeting.  Three persons stood up from the audience. Out of three, one was a hindu, one was a Christian and one was a muslim.

All the three asked Sri Ramasamy why he is preaching that there is no god.

Sri E.V.Ramasamy smiled and said in the mike:

“I am speaking what all the three of you are doing. You too are behaving like an atheist.  You, a hindu, deny the gods Jesus and Allah;  You, a Christian, deny the gods of Hindu and muslim; You, a muslim deny the gods of hindus and Christians. Thus, all three of you are denying the existence of the gods of other religions. So, all the people of all the religions are also atheists! Do you understand?”

Wow……What a wonderful attack?  I fully agree with the views of that reformist. Though it looked like denying the God, he always condemned the atrocities happening in the name of god, not the god himself.

In this way, all of us are behaving like atheists. We have no rights to condemn the atheists because we too have such qualities.

By denying other gods, we become a follower of one god and refuser of other gods. This too is an atheistic mindset.

Let us come out of such cheap way of respecting one god and getting irritated to see the followers of other gods.

I too discourage such a mindset existing among the devotees.

Let Krishna be the Supreme Personality of Godhead. But, why should we hate other gods and their followers?

Since your father is the head of family, will you hate your uncle and aunty?

Just because we follow ISKCON that is, of course preaching the topmost concepts, why should we comment against other mutts, sampradhayas, gods, religions, etc?

This is not a matured approach.  Be dedicated to Krishna. But, do not speak others cheaply.

What fault do you find when she kneels down and prays to Jesus or any other gods? She is following the custom IMPOSED ON HER by her parents.  We should praise her for her dedication in her path.  We should not get irritated.

Why these nonsense?

Let her follow her god in her own way.  You worship Krishna by keeping His picture in a small shelf or box.  Chanting can be done even from the hostel veranda or garden or open terrace.

Aren’t there ways to manage?

Thousands of ways are there.

Help her to worship her god in her own way by being calm and chanting silently or in a mild voice. By seeing your cooperative and matured approach, she should appreciate the devotees of Krishna.

Please think with broad mind and see the followers of other religions and paths without hatred. All are the souls. These nonsense identities are man made for their own convenience and to satisfy their ego.

I am going to announce my clear decision against these nonsense identities in near future that is going to be my manthra and baseline of my way of devotion.  And, I will follow that only in future.

A soul is pure until it takes a body and it has no identity.  These identities are man made to satisfy his nonsense ego. Always remember that.

  1. Prabhu, thank you for your reply, I will do that in the future. I do find it so that especially if you’re experienced (like you), it is important to differentiate. Otherwise you will get what we have today, a failed Movement for God Consciousness. I am replying like above because of the Guru Business book by Sulocana Dasa. When one speaks up against this, everyone is against (like I am experiencing now) and most then are compromising. Srila Prabhupada indeed said Lord Jesus is our Guru. But he always said that there is only one God. This compromising business has ruined us. And people who have been yes-men of these compromisers are also responsible. Anyway, If you are offended, please forgive me. If you want you can remove me of your subscription-letter. Hare Krishna.

    1. Its alright. I have never said anywhere even in my dreams that some one is equal to Krishna. Krishna is Supreme Personality. But, I always respect the sentiments of all for harmony and social peace. Love Krishna, but, don’t hate others. This has been my policy for the past 8 years of my preaching. And, I will not remove you from subscriber list since you valued our site and subscribed. I welcome suggestions from anyone. I take removal actions only in the case of serious violations. You have just misunderstood my intentions that I can deal with my reply itself. But, my only request is that do not come to any conclusion about anyone suddenly. I am just customizing my replies according to the people, not compromising. That’s all. Thanks for your comment.

      1. OK, Prabhu, thank you for your patience. I also am learning. We learn from eachother. I will watch out in the future. Thanks for keeping me in the mailinglist.

        Hare Krishna,

  2. Prabhu, why use Krishna’s name? Because it get’s you followers?

    You say:
By denying other gods, we become a follower of one god and refuser of other gods. This too is an atheistic mindset.
Let us come out of such cheap way of respecting one god and getting irritated to see the followers of other gods.
I too discourage such a mindset existing among the devotees.
Let Krishna be the Supreme Personality of Godhead. But, why should we hate other gods and their followers?

God cannot be in plural form. There are no “Gods”. There is only ONE God and His name is Krishna.

You once said that you are a reader of Srila Prabhupada’s books? Then how can you say above nonesense? This is exactly why the world is heading towards disaster. Because people like you compromise with others who flat out reject Krishna and His devotee. These other religious groups and muths should be shown respect. But NO WAY, should devotees of Krishna and followers of Srila Prabhupada equal them with Gaudiya Vaisnavism. This is simply nonesense. Srila Prabhupada warns us of people like you who in name of Krishna speak compromising language. Why? Are you afraid? Don’t you believe in the Veda’s? I guess you have not understood the Vedic philosophy.

Are you for Srila Prabhupada or not? I have been nice up to now but it seems to be nice to people like you is encouraging you to speak more nonesense. Equaling Krishna and Gaudiya Vaisnavism with other religions. This is foolishness and Mother Nature will present you the bill for it.

    Hare Krishna!

    1. I don’t know why you misunderstood my points? I never said in my 8 years of preaching that Krishna is equal to jesus, Shiva, etc. All I have been writing is not to hate the followers of other sects. This girl has to stay with that christian girl only. How can she avoid that situation? Why should she mention that room mate’s kneeling down causes irritation? Is this a right mindset? She is following her custom. We should follow ours.

And, I used the term Gods just because of understanding to avoid mentioning the names of all the 1000s of worshiped deities in this world. I have written in my 8 years 100s of times that God means Krishna. If the readers like you approach a reply given to a particular devotee’s problem with this much of sensitivity, we, the preachers can never write any concept. Even Srila Prabhupada said Jesus is our guru; Then, why should she get irritated to see the kneeling down of that girl?

The tone of my above reply is that while following our topmost concepts, we should also learn to respect the sentiments of other paths. I did not advise her to accept other paths. Just advised to respect all. Krishna too has said in Bhagavad Gita that we should not discourage such followers.

You have used strong words without reading all my posts in the past 8 years. I request you to first mail me to clarify your views and please do not post about a person without knowing his way of preaching in the past. I like a peaceful world. Only if we disrespect other followers we can satisfy Krishna, I am not for such a way of satisfying Krishna. Such advice are necessary for following our path without hating any others. Even atheists are the arrangement of Krishna. He Himself came as Buddha to stabilise such hatred spread all over at that time.

I never liquidated the concepts of Srila Prabhupada. I just present them according to the needs of every questioner. Anyway, hereafter, please mail me for any clarification.

      Thanks and Hare Krishna.
