Can a “good devotee with dirty past” marry an innocent devotee?

Can a “good devotee with dirty past” marry an innocent devotee?

A male devotee (Name hidden) asked like this:

“I have been imperfect in my past personal life.  I started Krishna Consciousness seriously in the middle and again went to materialized life.  Now, again I am Krishna Conscious. If I marry a serious devotee girl, will it be an injustice to that good girl as I have a dirty past though reformed now?”

REPLY:

That means, you have fallen twice in the hands of maya and recovered, ie, a good devotee with dirty past.

This itself means that Krishna is not ready to leave you to maya. Though you fall to maya in the middle, Krishna pulls you back.

This shows that Krishna does not like to see His devotees fall.

That is why, He assures in Bhavagad Gita (9-31) that His devotees never perishes/ falls.

Here, I have a consoling point to you to remember:  Most of the devotees in any sathsangha have been highly materialistic in their past life.  Most of the PRESENT GOOD DEVOTEES were committing offences in their past life.  This includes girls also.  There are some girls and boys who have even underwent premarital sex ignorantly and then came to Krishna Bhakti and then became very good devotees.

You are aware , even Valmiki was a thief in his past and then reformed himself later.

Though Gandhiji is considered as a good person, he too stole, smoke in his past.

Some associates of Sri Caitanya Maha Prabhu too have committed offences in their past.

Ajamila, who was taken to Vishnu’s abode after death also committed serious offences of illicit contacts with a call girl.

What this shows?

If a boy and girl have to be pure right from birth to get married, I think, no one can marry anyone.  Because, when we take birth, we are involved in a certain acts because of the influence of our past karma.

So, everyone will be committing some kind of offences till he / she meets a pure devotee who will reform him/ her later.  So, everyone may have a dark past that might have involved stealing, illicit sex, smoking, drinking, lieing, cheating, betraying, etc.

(FIVE PRIMARY RASAS (RELATIONSHIPS) AND SEVEN SECONDARY RASAS ONE CAN HAVE WITH KRISHNA! READ HERE!)

Now we are living in a world in which some persons show themselves as god’s avatars but they also involve in illicit sex, that we have been seeing in media.

Even in this severely contaminated kaliyuga, many devotees who were committing some offences because of the influence of their past karma, are now getting reformed after coming to the devotional life.

These devotees have to be considered as pure though they had done some offences in the past.  Because, they have realized their mistakes, determined not to commit such mistakes again and surrendered to Lord Krishna. So, they are pure.  So, you too are to be viewed as a honest devotee.

Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita that one have to be considered as His devotee though he involved in the past in some offences. This does not mean, we can commit offences in the strength of being a devotee. Some times some devotees commit offences.  However, we should not consider him as unqualified.

Let us now see what Krishna says about such persons who recover from offences, in Bhagavad Gita:

(i) In Bhagavad Gita 2-50, Bhagawan says that the devotee who is performing devotional services escapes from all the reactions of his good and bad acts, WITHIN THIS BIRTH.  (This guarantees that any sinner can get purified if he involves in devotional services to Krishna)

(How can a devotee girl protect herself from the Premarital relations? READ HERE!)

(ii) In Bhagavad Gita 4-10, Bhagawan says that those persons who gave up attachments, fear, anger and surrendered to Him, have become pure. (This guarantees that anyone can become pure if He surrenders to Krishna and gives up material desires)

(iii) In Bhagavad Gita 4-37, Bhagawan says that the fire of Gnana (knowledge about Lord) will burn the effects of material acts like the fire burns the wood into ashes. (This guarentees that all our karma will be burnt when we establish in the knowledge of Krishna)

(iv) In Bhagavad Gita 6-40, Bhagawan says that a devotee never faces failure either in this world or in the spiritual world.

What else you need?  Krishna Himself has said that everyone will be purified if he comes to His service. So, a good devotee with dirty past is also pure when he discharges the service of the Lord.

This is how, 1000’s of devotees are getting purified by following the advice of acharyas like Srila Prabhupada.  So, you too might have committed some offenses in your past.  The girl you are going to marry might also have committed some offences in her past.  But, as both of you have accepted the path of Lord’s service, both of you must be considered as pure now.

(if One involves in illicit relations as per karma, why it adds karma again? READ HERE!)

So, if you involve in the service of Lord and practice the recommendations for devotional life with firm faith and if you are careful in not going back to materialized life in future, take my words granted – you are a right person to marry any girl involved in devotional service though she did not commit any major offences in her past.

Because, at present and in future, both of you are going to be pure because both of you are serving the lord.  So, you can marry any devotee girl you prefer to marry.

Before ending this advice, as usual, I like to tell you that you should discuss your expectations with the girl whom you choose to marry and get her consent to cooperate in all your efforts to serve Lord together with wife.

So, Go ahead and marry any devotee girl after having a healthy discussions with her.  Only One condition:  You should never go back to the previous fallen life and you should follow devotional practices sincerely from the heart.

Hope you are now clear about a present “good devotee with dirty past” can marry a “devotee by birth”.
