WHOM ARE WE CHEATING – STORY

WHOM ARE WE CHEATING – STORY

Once three friends went to the supreme personality of godhead and made a pact with him, if you give us this benediction we shall be ever grateful to you and part with fifty percent of the proceeds.

As usual the all merciful Krishna granted them and fulfilled their wish.

After this incident:

Friend # 1:

You certainly are all merciful . You have certainly given me the boon I
desired, but you are so smart I bought a lottery ticket and you gave the second prize which is fifty percent of the fist prize. You are all knowing and you have already taken your share how very smart of you.

Friend # 2:

It is amazing now I certainly accept your supremacy. You have granted me the benediction what I had asked of you. I have come to thank you.

Now we will draw a line the other side of the line is yours and this side is my territory. I will toss this wealth which you have given me as benediction
and what ever falls on your territory is yours and what falls on my territory is mine.

Saying this he tossed the wad of notes in mid air and kept a powerful fan on the opposite side to sweep the maximum notes on his side.

Then he said you are all powerful what can I do all the money which is on my side rightfully belongs to me. Now I rightfully stake claim of whatever money is in my territory .

Friend # 3:

I have no other option but to accept you as the Supreme. I am given to understand that your hierarchy you are the master and situated above in the spiritual world and the rest are your servants who are below. Since you are supreme and located above I throw all the wealth what ever you have benedicted me with, you please take what ever is your share and what ever falls below I shall rightfully stake my claim over it since I am below and you are above.

Obviously all amount tossed up falls below and our friend # 3 claims rightful ownership.

This is a nice allegoric story.

Nature from time immemorial has been giving us benedictions which we are not even aware of , by way of sun, moon, rain, father, mother , fruits the list is endless.

We fail to acknowledge His existence and thank him regularly for all the benedictions bestowed.

We can learn the following from this story:

(1) Ishavasyam idam sarvam – Everything animate and inanimate belongs to god and we must stake a claim only on what is our share and be happy with that which is allocated as our share.

(2) When you make a commitment honour it to the last word.

(3) Whatever these three friends have done we all know is wrong. Come what may we cannot cheat GOD.

(4) We are ultimately cheating ourselves by making false promises.

(5) Living entities have four defects:
Propensity to cheat, To be in illusion, Imperfect senses and Bound to err.

(6) Ultimate goal of life is to understand

(a) Who is God and what is my relationship with him
(b) Where does god reside and what he wants from us
(c) How can we perfect our existence here
(d) What do we achieve by leading a life as recommended in the scriptures.
