Sea without waves in Rameswaram -Story!

The Puranas say that bathing in the Rameswaram Agni Theertha sea on the Amavasya thithi is very beneficial.

Ravana abducted Sita and imprisoned her in Sri Lanka. Sri Rama went to Sri Lanka with the Vanara army and fought and rescued Sita.

Since Sita had been in the possession of a stranger for some time, Rama ordered Sita to be burnt so that the villagers would not speak ill of her.

Thus, Sita came and stood in front of the Agni Kund and said:

‘O Agni Deva, I descend into you. If I am unchaste, then consume me.’

She descended into the Agni Kund as she said.

The heat of Sita’s chastity burned Agni Deva. “Sita is pure. I cannot burn her to death,” he said.

Then, carrying Sita in his arms and handing her over to Rama, Agni Deva jumped into the nearby Rameswaram sea to relieve his heat.

As Agni Deva descended into the sea, the water of the Rameswaram sea began to boil and the sea creatures suffocated. The sea king screamed.

When everyone took refuge with Sita, Sita Devi calmed the sea king by calming the sea king and saved all the creatures.

Sita blessed Agni Deva, who was standing before her, and said:

“From now on, this theerth (water) will be called Agni Theerth after your name. It will not agitate like other seas, but will be calm like me, the daughter of Bhu Devi.”

She also blessed the sea king that the sins of those who bathe in this Agni Theerth will be washed away.

From that day on, the sea did not have waves. This is the reason for the state of Sea without waves in Rameswaram. Those who bathe in the holy water known as Agni Theerth get their sins washed away and get merit.

A large number of people visit the Agni Theerth in Rameswaram on the new moon days of every month to offer tarpana and to offer tithi to their ancestors. Similarly, there is a huge crowd here on the days of Amavasya, and Mahalaya Paksha.

After offering tithi, you can take a bath in the sea and then go to your room and take a bath there and then go to the temple.

It is said that it is a great blessing to step on the soil of Rameswaram. People from North India should first offer tithi in Kashi and then in Rameswaram.

Similarly, if South Indians offer tithi first in Rameswaram and then in Kashi, it is very auspicious.

This removes the evils of the ancestors and brings benefits. They also perform some remedies for unmarried people. Similarly, if there is a female curse in the family, nothing good will happen in that house. They also perform puja here to remove that evil.

Rameswaram is a great Parihar Place of South India like Kashi, Allahabad and Gaya in North India.
