What is the Karmic reaction for causing someone’s suicide?
A woman devotee who requested anonymity asked like this:
“HARE KRISHNA Prabhuji…I have some doubts… As u said in all your post that what we are baring today is all just because of our past karma…If a boy have cheated 10 girls in his past life then in this life he will take a birth as a girl and will be cheated by 10 boys…If a person has done murder in his past life then in this birth he will b murdered.. But what about..if a person has been the reason for a making or forcing someone to end his life committing suicide…will he have to bare that reaction by committing suicide in his existing life…???
Nd if everything happens to what is written, den if it is written that person will die because if suicide then how can we stop that???

(2) Another question disturbing my mind…
If we are gifted or punished for our bad karma in heaven nd hell, then on getting fruits nd punishment our karma will get cleared. then y we are sent again on this earth… If we are sent because we have completed our real motive that is going back to KRISHNA , den y we have to work according to our past Karma??? If it is already been cleared in hell nd heaven.
Hope i have made my point clear what i want to ask…Please help me out to clear my doubts. dnt disclose my name.. HARE KRISHNA…”

Actually seriously and purposefully forcing someone to commit suicide is equal to killing him. Even our governments’ constitutional laws state that.
The following will not be considered as killing:
A son is REALLY not studying well as he is always playing with friends. His father scolds that son to study well; Son commits suicide. Here, the son was irresponsible. So, the father did his duty. But, the son took it otherwise. So, this is not forcing for suicide.
A father doubts his good daughter whether she is having affairs with boys. Without ascertaining whether she is on wrong path or not, he scolds her though she begs that she is not in affairs. So, She commits suicide. This is inducing to commit suicide. Because, the father unnecessarily doubted a good girl and made her frustrated.
So, if the pure girl commits suicide because of the unverified doubts of father, it actually means the father has killed her.
This is the difference. If you do your duty sincerely and perfectly and this affects any person to commit suicide, you will not add negative karma of killing.

For example, the government orders the policemen to shoot and catch a serious and wild criminal if they find him. One day a police man sees that criminal and shoots at him. But, that criminal dies. This will not add karma as the policeman did his duty as ordered by the government.
Similarly, a bank official trusts a person and offers loan to him. But, the borrower did not repay. So, the bank management asks that official to file a case in court. On receiving court notice, that borrower commits suicide. Here, will that bank official incur karma of killing that borrower? No. He did his duty of filing a case in court.
Another good example can be that if a kshatria kills even 100 warriors in the war in the battle field, it will not add karma as he does his duty as a kshatriya, whereas, if he kills even a single person or induces to commit suicide outside the battle field, he is arrested and punished as it is personal and unrecognized.
Thus, INDUCING TO COMMIT SUICIDE means inducing an innocent person without verification.
You may ask: “Then, can’t we scold anyone at all?”
(If someone commits suicide, What will happen after that? READ HERE!)
Not necessary. We too have many flaws. Who are we to scold others? If a thief steals from you, you must report to police. If he dies when police attacks him, you will not add karma. But, when you directly punish him and he commit suicide, you add karma. So, always go in the legal way. You do not take the law in your hands. Then, you add karma for your every activity.
Thus, the Karmic reaction for causing someone’s suicide will be facing a tough situation in next lives that may force us to commit suicide (or) we may be killed by someone.
That is why, we should avoid scolding or insulting anyone.
Hope you are clear.
You have also asked: We are sent to earth to try to go back to Krishna. Then, why are we compelled to be bound by karma?
We are not compelled. We only came from Lord out of our own wish. Lord never likes to send us from Goloka to earth. We got jealous out of the opulence of Krishna and hence we too wanted to be respected like Krishna. So, the Lord sent us to this earth.
The Lord always gives us freedom to choose from two choices: 1. Either detach from material life and come back to Him again. 2. Remain in the material world taking births again and again and feeling pains and pleasures alternatively.
(KARMA & SUICIDE: If karma decides suicide, why the person is punished with a ghost body? READ HERE!)
What we choose now? We are busy in adding more and more wealth and we like to show ourselves better than others. That much of material attachments. That is why, we are taking births again and again.
The Lord is eagerly waiting to receive us. But, Mayadevi is also waiting to pull us towards temporary material pleasures like wine, women, men, money, comforts, appreciation, recognition, etc.. What we do? We are attracted by the glares of Mayadevi. We speak of Krishna from lips, but are also attracted by the attractions of maya.
If we are truly attached with Krishna, we will not find the colours of maya attractive. So, until we are attracted by these temporary pleasures, that means, we are not fully surrendered to the Lord.
So, we are misusing the INDEPENDENCE given by the Lord. Lord gave independence for choosing either Himself or maya. We are now with maya. So, we are back to earth again.
So, Surrender to Krishna wholeheartedly. This will make you detached materially and hence you can go back to the Lord from this world.
Hope you have understood the Karmic reaction for causing someone’s suicide.
