If karma decides our next birth, how did we take first birth without karma?
“A male devotee” asked like this:
Please answer my query: If previous life karma’s are responsible for one’s next incarnation, then which karma’s are responsible for a soul’s first incarnation (it’s first bodily existence) ?
REPLY:
A soul came to this material world in two ways:
REASON-1:
Yes, We did not take birth due to karma initially. We took first birth without karma. But, we were given birth AS WISHED BY THE LORD KRISHNA. We were created by Lord Krishna through Brahma Dev when the Lord decided to create living beings and worlds for them to live!

First Brahma Dev came from Lord. Then Brahma Dev did penances to get the knowledge of creations. Then, Krishna taught him the secrets of creations. After that, Brahma Dev created all living beings.
At this time, we had no karma. But, Brahma Dev wanted to increase the population of the planets as we were sent to the material planets by Brahma Dev to increase the population. When we involve in increasing the population, we start to involve in karma.
In the Bhagavad Gita (3-10), Lord says: “In the beginning of creation, the Lord of all creatures sent forth generations of men and demigods, along with sacrifices for Visnu, and blessed them by saying, “Be thou happy by this yajna [sacrifice] because its performance will bestow upon you all desirable things.”
So, this karma was not existing when we were created FOR THE FIRST TIME from the body of Lord. Because, we came from the body of Lord who is not bound by karma. So, we could not have karma initially. Only after we were sent for multiplying the population, karma started.

REASON-2:
The REASON -1 given above is for our being created for the first time by Lord. This REASON-2 speaks about our jealousy that stood as a reason for our fall down from spiritual worlds.
Contamination of our pure state. Initially, all of us were very pure and hence we were living in the Krishna’s planet. But, on seeing the opulence and lilas of Lord, we too wanted to enjoy as a master. Because of this contamination of our purity due to jealousy, we were sent to the material planets that allows us to enjoy LIMITED FREEDOM and suffer.

No one of us can remain in the spiritual world if we have even a trace of contamination. So, we came to the material world, as we ourselves wanted to come from spiritual planets as we wanted to enjoy like Krishna.
