84 LAKHS TYPES OF SPECIES/ BIRTHS – CLEAR EXPLANATION!
A male devotee asked like this:
“Hare krishna. It is said that there are 84 lakh species out of which 4 lakh is of human and we can liberate from this material world only in the human form. is it mean that we have 4 lakh chances to liberate from this material world?”
REPLY:
There are vast differences between data on number of different living beings given by World Animal Foundation and the Indian Vedic Scriptures. As per the Indian Vedic Scriptures, 84 lakhs types of species/ births of living beings are there in this world. Not 84 lakh chances.
This is stated in the bonafide Indian Scripture “Vishnu Purana” like this:
jala-ja nava-laksani sthavara laksa-vimsati
krmayo rudra-sankhyakah paksinam dasa-laksanam
trimsal-laksani pasavah catur-laksani manusah
“There are 900,000 species living in the water. There are also 2,000,000 nonmoving living entities (sthavara), such as trees and plants. There are also 1,100,000 species of insects and reptiles, and there are 1,000,000 species of birds. As far as quadrupeds are concerned, there are 3,000,000 varieties, and there are 400,000 human species.”
Total comes 84 LAKHS TYPES OF SPECIES/ BIRTHS.

For example, among species living in water, there are many types like fish, wales, etc. Among those animals living in both water and land, there are many types likes snakes, crocodiles, etc.
Among microorganisms, there are so many living beings like bacteria, virus, etc.
Among birds, there are crows, eagles, etc.
Among animals, there are dogs, cats, tigers, lions, etc.
Similarly,
Among men, there are so many types of human beings that are spread all over the planet. In Africa, there are many types of men. In India, there are many types of men.

As far as human births are concerned, the births are classified according to the GUNA of the people. Many people are in Satva guna; Many in Rajo Guna; Many in thamo guna.
And, there are lakhs of varieties based on the percentage of the mix of all these three gunas. Eg:
Satva guna = 1% + Rajo Guna = 20% + Thamo Guna =79%
(or) Satva guna = 2% + Rajo Guna = 18% + Thamo Guna =80%
(or) Satva guna = 50% + Rajo Guna = 20% + Thamo Guna =30%
If you mix all the three gunas in different proportions as mentioned above, you will get thousands of varieties of men.
That is why, every human being has unique character and we can not see similar type of men in all aspects. Everyone has an unique proportion of mix of these three gunas.
Thus, there are 4 lakhs types of human beings in this world.

Based on our domination of these three gunas in this birth, we will get our next human birth with a certain proportion of these three gunas.
If the rajo and thamo gunas dominate beyond a limit, a human can get even an animal birth. So, human birth is not guarenteed for everyone again and again.
Only if the mix of satva guna is remarkably more, one can get human birth again. He may have other gunas also. But, he should have atleast some satva guna in certain aspects to get human birth again.
So, if you have good acts in this birth (though with some bad acts), you will get human birth again. If a person has not even a small amount of satva guna, but has only thamo and rajo guna acts, then, he will go in reverse to animal births.
So, you only are deciding how many human births you can take. Lord Krishna has given that freedom to you to select your next birth through your consciousness and activities in your present birth.
Lord has also given freedom for you to stop all births and get mukthi or if you are very fortunate, to go back to Lord’s kingdom itself.
