How Kayadhu could bear Prahalad for 10000 years within womb?
“Adityan Narasimha” asked this important and interesting question:
“Hare Krishna Prabhu, sorry to disturb you Prabhu , hope you are doing well by Krishna mercy. A small question Prabhu.
Prabhu, I was reading Narasimma lilas in bhagavatham, I had a doubt prabhu, only you can solve, Prabhu Hiranyakasipu enjoyed heavens for 10 million years, like this details are there in bhagavatham. Then what about prahalada, for all these millions of years, prahalada was just 5 year old? Same age ah?
Because kayadu was pregnant, when Hiranyakasipu started his penance for 10,000 years… Then after getting boons from Brahma, Hiranyakasipu started to rule for 10 millions years, as I read in scriptures.
So I can’t understand properly prabhu. Please kindly explain prabhu.”
REPLY:
Before replying your question, let me give some basic details to understand the time periods better.
See, Hiranya kasipu lived in Satya yuga.
In Satya yuga, the lifetime was 1,00,000 years. Not just 100 years like in kaliyuga.
(SRI NARASIMMHA KAVACHA MANTHRA WITH MEANING! READ HERE!)
So, the mention of 1000, million, etc are common in the scriptures.
In dvapar yuga, the people lived for 1000 years.
It gradually came down to 150 or 125 when kaliyuga approached.
Krishna appeared at the end of dvapar yuga and just before the start of kaliyuga.
So, Krishna too left the planet even when He was 125 in age on earth (though he is always 16 in appearance)
Thus, the lifetimes and calculations vary from yuga to yuga.
The reply for your question is simple and very interesting.
Hiranyakasipu went to perform penance for 10,000 years and it happened before the birth of Prahalad.
When he went for penance, his wife Kayadhu was pregnant.
After performing penance for 10,000, Hiranya kasipu came back and got Prahalad as child.
Even after getting Prahalad, he continued to be the king.
It is mentioned that Hiranyakasipu did penance toward Brahma deva for 10,000 years and his wife was pregnant for such a long period.
If it is so, did the wife was carrying the child for 10,000 years till her husband came?
Yes, it was true.

Even before Prahalad took birth, Hiranyakasipu was ruling the planet.
Being a demon, he too had some mystic powers that the devas have.
Like devas, demons too had powers. Devas used that power positively, but the demons negatively. That’s all.
If a demon likes to remain within the womb of mother for an extended period of time, he can do so. They too can disappear and reappear. They too can change their outlook. They too can offer boons to their followers.
Let me come to the direct answer for your question:
Yes, Hiranyakasipu went for performing penance to get boon from Brahma deva for his immortal life.
During those periods, the heavenly king Indra fearing that the child carried by KAYADHU, the wife of Hiranyakasipu may be a big demon.
So, Indra abducted Kayadhu, wife of Hiranyakasipu in an intention of killing her and the child within his womb.
At that time, Naradha muni came to Indra’s palace.
Narada told Indra:
“Hey Indra, don’t kill the child within the womb of Kayadhu fearing it to be a great demon. That child will be a great devotee of the Lord Vishnu”
(Narasimmha Lila: Lord Narasimmha’s mercy on Sinners! READ HERE!)
Hearing his words, Indra was happy and dropped the idea of killing Kayadhu and the child within womb.
Then, Sage Narada took Kayadhu to his ashram.
There Kayadhu prayed Narada like this:
“Narada rishi! Please bless me to bear this child within my womb till my husband Hiranyakasipu returns from penance of 10,000 years. I will deliver this child after my husband returns”
As prayed by her, Sage Narada gave that boon to her.
Thus, kayadhu was bearing Prahalad for 10,000 years till Hiranyakasipu returned from penance.
After his return, she delivered Prahalad.
Then Hiranyakasipu tortured Prahalad in many ways and declared himself as the ultimate god of the universe.
Then, Vishnu came as Narsimha and killed Hiranyakasipu as per the conditions he put before Brahma deva while getting his boon that all of us know.
Hope you got the answer for the question how Kayadhu could bear Prahalad for 10000 years within womb.
