Maintaining a depressed father is difficult, I agree.  Because, he is also like a child for you.  You can not freely go out and do your duties independently.  I understand your situation that forced you to stop chanting out of frustration.

However,  there are some points you should  keep in mind.

I very much appreciate you as you seem to be a very responsible person who cares all the members of your family.  They are all very fortunate to have you with them.

(i) You are struggling within the four walls decently.  Why can’t you see those who are living on platforms?

(ii) Lord has given you a home to live , food to eat, dress to wear and good brain to work and earn!  What else you need from Krishna?

(iii) Can a person live in this world without any responsibilities or ailments?  Do you know that I started to take care of my mother since the death of my father in my age of 15  and lost  so many things in my own life because of that?

(iv) Do you know, just because,  I sacrificed many of the thoughts that originate in young age for the welfare of my family, particularly mother, Lord became very merciful on me and blessed me with SOME knowledge about Himself and gave realizations about Him?

(v) So, remember, those who sacrifice their happy moments of their life will be treated mercifully by the Lord.  Because, there are many people who are very particular in achieving all the material pleasures without bothering about the sufferings of others.

(vi) Mahathma Gandhi sacrificed for the freedom of our country in jails.  Now, he is in history.

(vii) Mother Teresa sacrificed for the poor.  She is now in history.

(viii) Even the top leaders of the countries come and fall at the feet of TRUE Saanyasis.  Why?  Because, they have sacrificed their lives for lord.

Thus, THERE IS ALWAYS MORE RESPECT FOR SACRIFICE THAN ENJOYING.

Do you expect that Krishna should give you a life only with happiness and without problems?  It is not possible to anyone.  Life is a mix of both happiness and sorrows.  Everybody has some unique problems.

Some persons suffer from heart/ kidney diseases though they have wealth. Some persons have good health, but, have no wealth.

Some persons have all comforts, but,  does not have an affectionate spouse.  Whereas, some other persons are just labourers, but, they have very affectionate spouses.

I have seen many persons who have no vision have got very caring wives/ husbands wit h vision. How was this possible?

So, everyone’s life has both  positives and negatives.

In your case, you have home, dress, food, everything, but, you have some responsibilities.  After the period of your father is over, you are going to become a free bird.  Even now, there are so many successful  treatments  for depression that keeps that problem well under control.  So, first take him to a good psychiatrist and treat.  He will become alright.

Why should you skip Krishna bakthi because of these problems?  These problems are given by Lord to test you whether you remain in His devotion even after these problems.  If you are worshiping Him even amidst many problems, he will be pleased and extend His full mercy on you.   It may take even years.  But, if you forget Him,  you will not have any other factor that can console you in life.

So, always trust that Lord is with you and He is giving you this much of problems to clear all your past karma.  Getting cleared from our past karma is a tough process and Krishna has to fasten the reactions of your past karma to make you clean. That is why, you face more problems when you follow devotion.

If you face more problems, that means that your karma is cleared fast and you are going to become clean soon.  After that, there will be no problems for you either in this birth  or after death.

If your situation is difficult, you can just stop with chanting a certain rounds and following regulative principles. If possible, offer food to Krishna daily. In any stage, do not give up chanting and discipline.  This vyragya will protect you from the effects of maya and karma.

So, fulfill all your responsibilities while chanting Hare Krishna.  This is the only protection you have.  Don’t lose it.  In a few months or years, you are going to be relieved from these problems.  Till that, don’t back track from your responsibilities.

Let  Krishna relieves you from problems soon.
