Without Guru, No Grace – Story

Ambareesh was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu.

When the devotion of the great emperor Ambareesh grew, the Lord took him to the feet of ‘Sudarshana Chakra’.

Ambareesh, who had ‘Sudarshana Chakra’ as his guru, used to observe the ‘Ekadashi Vrata’ (fasting) of ‘living with the Lord’ as his principle.

When one such Ekadashi was about to be completed, ‘Durvasa Maharishi’ came to see Ambareesh.

Since the Ekadasi Tithi had been completed by the time he returned from bathing, Ambareesh drank some Tulsi water to complete the fast.

Durvasa, who considered that he had insulted the guest by completing the fast without his presence, created an asura (demon) with his penance and ordered him to destroy Ambareesh.

Seeing the suffering of his devotee, ‘Sudarshana Chakra’ destroyed the demon and started chasing away the demon who had unleashed it.

To escape from Sudarshana Chakra, Durvasa surrendered at the feet of the Lord Narayana.

Lord Narayana made Durvasa surrender to Ambareesh.

Only after Durvasa surrendered to Ambareesh, Sudharshan Chakra was at peace.

Yes, if a devotee is reviled, the ‘Sadhguru’, ie, the Bhagavata, will come before the Bhagavan and save him.

Even if the reviled (blasphemed) one goes to the Bhagavan and bows down, the Bhagavan will bring him to the devotee.

But, if someone reviles the Satguru, neither the Bhagavan… nor the devotee… can free him. Only that Satguru can forgive him. But the compassionate Satguru… has never punished anyone. They convert even those who insult them into devotees and bring them to the feet of the Lord.

That is why the great ones who have experienced their grace and mercy… said, ‘Without the grace of the Guru, there is no grace!’.
