Karma for killing animals as said by our scriptures! Full Details!
A Girl devotee (Name hidden) asked like this:
“This is confusing subject for me!!! then what is the fruit of karma of those who enjoy killing and eating animals. what they deserve? I m not getting this.”
REPLY:
Killing and separating a person or animal from its partners causes great sin that gives a similar reaction in his future birth(s).
Let me give you a few examples of Karma for killing animals as said by our scriptures for your understanding:
(1)
In Ayodhya kanta of Ramayana, King Dasaratha explains this Story to Kousalya:
King Dasaratha was hunting at the banks of sarayu river. Thinking him as an elephant, he arrowed and inadvertantly killed an young sage who was taking care of his visionless aged parents.

Those parents came and did all the final rites for their deceased son.
They cursed Dasaratha that he too will die after the separation of his son like them.
Then, those parents died with the grief of the loss of their only son.
It happened. Dasaratha had to part his son Rama and died in grief of separation and guilt, after explaining this incident to Kousalya.
(2) MANU SMRITI (5.51) SAYS:
“Those who permit slaying of animals, those who bring animals for slaughter, those who slaughter, those who sell meat, those who purchase meat, those who prepare dish out of it, those who serve that meat and those who eat ARE ALL MURDERERS.”
(3) MAHABHARATA, ANU PARVA (115.47) SAYS:
“He who desires to augment his own flesh by eating the flesh of other creatures, lives in misery in whatever species he may take his [next] birth.”

(4) ADHARVAN VEDA (6.140.2) SAYS:
“O teeth! You eat rice, you eat barley, you eat gram and you eat sesame. These cereals are specifically meant for you. Do not kill those who are capable of being fathers and mothers.”
(5) YAJUR VEDA (1.1) SAYS:
“O human! The animals are ‘Aghnya’ – not to be killed. Protect the animals”
(6) “LAMA ZOPA RINPOCHE” OF “MAHAYANA TRADITION” (NEPAL) SAYS:
“It is said in the teachings that if you kill one animal, because of that karma, you will be killed five hundred times by others. You will suffer in very hot hell realm for one thousand eons.”

Why killing the animals and birds add to karma?
Because, there are no differences in the feelings and emotions between the animals and human beings.
Though the animals can’t talk and complain somewhere, they show their fear and opposition when we torture them.
Humans get frightened when a powerful person touches them. The animals and birds too get frightened when we touch them or throw a stone on them.
Humans have the desire to live; The animals and birds too like to live. That is why, they fight hard to protect themselves by crying, running away and fighting. This shows that THEY HAVE STRONG DESIRE TO LIVE.
Humans mate for pleasure; Animals and birds too do that for pleasure.
Humans have attachment with the children; The animals and birds too show attachment to their children.

Humans show the qualities like gratitude, loyalty, deceiving, helping, etc. The animals and birds too show their gratitude and loyalty between themselves and their masters who feed and protect them.
So, killing of animals and birds is equal to killing of humans. Eating the meat sold by others is also sinful as they do this business only because we buy and eat.
So, the meat eaters may have to take many births to quit meat eating.
And, because of adding such negative karma out of meat eating, a meat eater can’t go back to Krishna.
He has to quit the meat and follow the honouring of prasadam only.
If this is the reactions for meat eaters, the reactions will be many times severe if they kill animals and birds cruelly as a play or passion. They may have to take many births as animals and birds and get killed.
