Kumbh Mela – Glories!

Kumbh Mela – Glories!

What does Kumbh Mela mean?

Kumbh Mela comes once in 12 years.

The 12th Kumbh Mela is called Mahakumbh Mela.

Maha Kumbh Mela came in the month of January 2025.

Kumbh Mela is celebrated in 4 places:

Haridwar (Ganga)
Prayag (Triveni)
Nasik (Godavari)
Ujjain (Kshipranati)

The gods and demons churned the sea to get Nectar that gives death-free eternal life.

Dhanvantri Bhagawan came from the sea carrying nectar.

Carrying the nectar, he walked around.

The demons also ran after him.

The Pot carrying nectar was placed in four places:  Triveni, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nasik.

Some say that nectar was spilled.

They say that nectar was spilled at a place called Haripudi in Haridwar.

There is another story.

Garuda’s mother was Vinata.

She was a slave to her sister..

To get rid of slavery, she said: “I will give you the nectar if you see the nectar bowl.”

To get rid of the slavery of her mother, Garuda carried the nectar bowl and flew.

According to the Puranas, the nectar drops fell in Nashik, Haridwar, Prayag, and Ujjain.

BENEFITS OF BATHING IN KUMBH MELA:

It is said that by taking a bath in the Mahakumbh Mela, 84 generations of sins are washed away.

This is how the Skanda Purana describes the 84 lakh births.

The main reason for the new moon in the Mahakumbh Mela is that the sun, moon, and Jupiter are very close to each other.

Everyone should take a great effort to attend the Mahakumbh Mela at least once in lifetime.

If you are still unable to do so, what to do?

Don’t worry if you cannot attend the Mahakumbh Mela.

Reciting the verse below, Even taking a bath at home has the same benefit:

Trivenim Madhavam Somam
Bharadvajam sa Vasukeem
Vande Akshayya Vadam Sesham
Prayagam Theerthanayagam

The Glory of India is that it has plenty of opportunities to purify oneself. Theerth Yathra, Reading the Scriptures, Nama Japa, Vedic recitations, Dhaan, Dharma, Pithru Pujas, rituals for every event, etc., etc.

Only the fortunate souls can take birth in Bharat Varsha.

No doubt in it!
