How should the followers take if their Godman is found a violator?
A Girl devotee (Name hidden) asked like this:
“Hare krishna.I am not a full time devotee of shree krishna. However I follow the four regulative principles (except onion and garlic) as my mother makes a common food for family.
My question is since childhood or my adolescence I was a very avid follower of …………………..(A Godman – Name Hidden). I started reading his history (few days ago). It was written there that he used to eat as well as serve meat. Also it was written that he used to smoke chillam. I was astonished by this fact as how a god (I used to believe) can eat or serve meat to his devotees. i even searched on net however I got no clarification. My faith in god is shaken after this as I earlier used to chant his name from the moment I wake up and used to remember him during day and at night before sleeping. It is very difficult for me to forget him and follow any other god.Kindly advice me on the same so that I can again find peace within me and can follow Shree Krishna.”

See, those in human bodies are humans.
It is the fanatic attitude of the people to make the humans as gods.
Many Village gods are deceased humans only.
Similarly, many so called Self styled Godmen are made as Gods by the people and their followers.

It is your fault to consider him a god.
Now a days, becoming a god or making someone as god has become a good business.
In some cases, the concerned godman himself declare himself as a god or avatar of god.
In some other cases, the followers of some godman make that godman very popular by releasing advertisements, giving programs in television, e-media, etc.
The people are suffering in many ways in their life.
Targeting these suffering people, these Self styled godmen and their followers preach as if all the problems of the people will vanish and they can become rich if they follow these godmen.
Some godmen use tricks like magics to show as if they are superhumans.
The suffering people who are trying many ways to get rid of their problems also start to follow these godmen.

Only the Godmen and his administrators become rich, not the people.
There are some godmen who have many hidden life and hidden motives. Since their followers project them as Gods, the people do not doubt them fearing for the punishments from the god.
Many such godmen have no controls in the life style. They do not preach tough disciplinary rules and regulations in food intake.
Because, their target is getting more followers, comforts and money.
So, it is your fault to follow the godmen who claim that they are gods. No human can be god and in this kaliyuga, there will be more godmen claiming to be gods.
Even in the family and personal life, when one trusts someone and he is found to be a fraud later, it affects him much. But, when the godman he believed is found to be a fraud later, it makes him frustrated in life.
So, it will be safe NOT TO consider any human as god.
At the most, one can be considered a guru if he is fit for that position as mentioned in the post below:
(How to select, serve and please guru? READ HERE!)
Even while choosing a guru, we should be very careful as mentioned in the above post as there are many bogus guys claiming to be gurus.
So, do not lose your faith in the God. Wherever you go, there will be some cheaters. Just because there are some cheaters, you need not hate the system and get frustrated.
Carefully select a right person to be followed as your guru. Chant Hare Krishna, follow the four regulative principles and associate with the good devotees.
This is enough for you.
My simple advice in this matter is: If anyone claims himself a god, do not even turn towards that direction. If anyone says so, he should be a fraud.
At the most, a human can be a guru; He can never become a god.
Past is past. Forget the past. Believe that there are good gurus and sathsangha even now. Select one of them and be peaceful.
