OLD AGE IS A BLESSING – STORY
Why did God create old age?
One day, a person asked God:
“If You can create anything, why didn’t You create humans to remain forever young?”
God smiled and said:
“Old age, too, has a beautiful purpose…”
I gradually dimmed your eyesight—so that your attachment to the beauty of the outside world would slowly fade, allowing you to perceive the beauty within yourself.
I gave you wrinkles—so that you would understand that true beauty lies not merely in the face.
I reduced the strength in your legs—so that, instead of rushing through life, you would walk slowly and turn your gaze inward.
I slightly lowered your hearing—so that, rather than focusing too much on what others say, you would listen carefully to the voice of your own heart.
I granted you more time for rest—so that your attachment to worldly life would gradually loosen, leading you to seek inner peace.
Then God added:
“If you remained forever young, when would you learn that you must one day leave this beautiful world and peacefully accept the end of life?”
When someone dies unexpectedly, it can take years for their loved ones to recover from the grief.
However, if a person has lived a long and fulfilling life, it may be easier for others to accept that their life’s journey has reached a natural conclusion.
That is why old age is not a punishment.
Old age may well be a gentle way God teaches us to live deliberately, let go of attachments, be grateful for the life we have been given, and peacefully accept the final journey. The true beauty of old age lies not in what we lose, but in what we learn to let go of.
Old age is not a curse.
It may even be a gift bestowed by the Lord.
A journey of gradually detaching from worldly ties and moving towards inner peace and the maturity to accept life as it is.
“Perhaps God created old age so that we might learn, little by little, to let go of our attachments to this world.”
