Addiction to Devotional Videos for Children & all! How to regulate?

A Girl devotee (Name hidden) asked like this:

“Hare Krishna Prabhu. While I was pursuing my degree, I had a married friend during her pregnancy period I used to say about pastimes of Krishna and also she used to read small books and magazines about Krishna consciousness. Now her daughter is studying in 6th std and she is very curious to know more about Krishna and His pastimes, she keeps scrolling youtube. How to guide her properly so that her Krishna conscious blooms without getting distracted by social media.. Thank you prabhu”

It is not tough to regulate the addiction to Devotional Videos for Children & all!

How to regulate?

To stop unregulated exposure by themselves on their own choice, just make it official and regulate it.

Any addiction can be stopped by following REGULATED & TIME BOUND PERMISSION.

What is Regulated & Time bound Permission?

Let me give an example here:

I know a couple. The husband was drinking and returning home late in the evening everyday. Sometimes, he will be on roadside after drinking heavily.

The wife was educated, humble and brilliant.

Her attempts to reform him did not succeed.

The family image was affected as he was found lying on the roadside atleast once a week.

So, the wife made a plan. She told her husband that she herself will keep the bottles of liquor at home and she will give 100 ml every day before going to bed.

He agreed and stopped drinking outside.

She was giving 100 ml everyday for about 6 months.

Then, she reduced the quantity to 50 ml every day.

This went for another six months.

Then she changed DAILY as thrice weekly. This too went for six months.

After that, she made it as 100 ml on every week end.

After a few months, she stopped liquor and started to give Cold drinks like Coke, Fanta, etc. 100 ml everyday.

That husband adopted this change because his thirst for liquor had already come down.

After a few months, she changed the cold drinks as tasty fruit juices.

In due course of time, he forgot liquor.

During this process, she did four important things:

(i) She gave him good love and extra kindness and variety of foodstuff everyday.

(ii) She arranged good friends to visit home and befriend her husband. She met her husband’s old friends and requested them not to call her husband for company to take liquor for the sake of herself and the child.

(iii) She arranged a Cab taxi to take her husband to office and bring back to home in the evening. So, her husband was unable to meet his old friends because the taxi dropped and picked him at the doorstep of home and office.

(iv) She also started to take him to the temple everyday and created interest in his mind to visit the temples everyday accompanied by her.

Thus, her planned efforts made her husband think in favour of her. He started to feel guilty and he found the good changes in his health condition and image in the society.

So, he fully stopped drinking the nonsense liquor because of her planned efforts.

You too can follow this method of Regulated & Time bound Permission.

Your friend’s daughter is searching for Videos on devotion. Of course, your friend’s sadhanas during pregnancy might have given interest in the child’s mind in devotional contents. Chances are there.

Searching devotional videos online may seem to be good if it is under control, but, it is not so in many cases.

Online media are mostly commercialised.  Every media advertise the links that links to different categories of videos or images or contents.

When that child is scrolling the video listings, she may have to see the video or image ads for many products or services.

Those links may have vulgar contents also.

If that child enters that link, it may expose unwanted contents to her.

Then, the child may start to search for such vulgar contents out of curiosity.

To avoid this, the parents themselves can share decent and genuine devotional videos through Whatsapp or Telegram.

They should download the videos and send to their own Whatsapp or telegram account. Then, the parents should allow the child to watch those videos in front of them.

Thus, allow 30 minutes daily. It is enough.

Thus, this Regulated Permission will keep her safe from knowing unwanted contents.

Since we allow her for 30 minutes by providing the Videos instantly without the need for search, she will like it and she will restrict herself for that 30 minutes alone.

Be strict in not allowing her to watch videos during the other times. Don’t give phones to her during other times.

Such a regulated permission in your presence will greatly help your friend to keep her child safe as much as possible.

Hope you are clear about the addiction to Devotional Videos for Children & all!
