Plant Pollution – Story
Pollution is not only for humans, but also for trees.
If you go near trees without cleanliness and manners, it harms the tree.
This incident proves this:
What subject is this? Biology? Pathology? – The Lord only knows!
A Shiva devotee used to perform Shiva puja daily.
He was protecting a Bael tree (A Sacred tree whose leaves are used in Shiva Puja) in his backyard and collects the leaves of that Bael tree daily and worships it joyfully.
One day, the Bael tree fell down.
The devotee was saddened as if he lost lakhs of rupees.
One day, when Kanchi Sankaracharya Sri Chandrasekarendra Swami came for darshan, he told him the news that the Bael tree had fallen down.
Swami didn’t seem to have listened to what he had said.
He was talking to others and blessing each other.
Then, after some time, looking at the waiting devotee whose Bael tree fell, he asked:
“Now you are talking about Water Pollution, Air Pollution, do you know?”
“Yes…they say that the pollution in drinking water, breathing air etc. is harmful to the body…”
“Even our scriptures have mentioned about pollution” – Swami said.
The devotee didn’t understand. What was Swami saying?
“Air Pollution affects not only humans; Pollution pollution affects trees too. If you go near trees without proper etiquette during the prohibited periods (like when in monthly periods, when death happened in the family), it harms the trees causing Plant pollution. That is why the Bael tree has fallen…”
The devotee was listening eagerly.
Swami then gave the solution also:
“Put a lot of cow dung at the root of the Bael tree and supply water every day. That is the Parihar (remedy)” – Swami said.
That Shiva devotee did so.
In fifteen days, shoots began to appear. Two months later, the devotee who came for darshan plucked leaves from the same Bael tree and offered a garland of Bael leaves to Swami.
How that Swami knew that cow dung contains vital nutrients – life giving nutrients?
The Lord only knows.
