Krishna responds Selfless Call – Story

Krishna responds Selfless Call – Story

A devotee used to go from house to house every day, singing the Krishna Bhaja Govindam, and begging for food.

One day, while he was singing and bringing food along the road, a 10-year-old girl called that devotee.

She said, “Swami, are you coming to my house? I am waiting to feed you.”

The devotee looked at the girl intently.

She had neatly folded her torn clothes and dressed beautifully. She had a beautiful face that was full of love despite her poverty.

The devotee asked, “Would you tell me the reason why you invited me to your house specifically to feed me?” with affection.

The girl said, “Swami, I enjoy listening to your Krishna Bhajans every day. After listening to them every day, I have memorized the entire song you sang. Therefore, considering you as my guru, I invite you to my house, Swami.” She said humbly.

The devotee, bound by the love in her words, went to the girl’s house.

The small hut was kept very clean.

The girl’s mother and father, the weavers, had gone to the market at that time.

This girl also had a small weaving machine.

When the devotee entered the girl’s house, she poured water on his feet, washed them, performed pooja with flowers, and then fed the devotee with the fruit and milk that she had prepared.

The devotee, happily ate that meal under her loving hospitality.

Then, seeing the tangled threads lying scattered around near her weaving machine, asked, “Why are you keeping all these tangled threads like garbage in this clean house?”

The girl replied, “Oh my God, it’s not garbage, it’s all threads that Krishna cut and threw away with his own hands.”

The devotee was astonished and said:

“What are you talking about? Are these the books that Krishna cut?”

The girl said:

“Yes, Swami, I will go around the city singing the Krishna Kirtan that you sang every day. Then Krishna will come here as a small child. He will not listen to me and will tear this thread and throw it away. Then he will disappear.”

On hearing this, the devotee was stunned and said:

“Krishna has not come to the song I sang for so long.  This little girl, who listened to me and memorized sings that brings Krishna. Okay, let’s see, that too.”

The devotee looked at the girl and said, “Amma, now you are going around the city singing, I wonder if Krishna is coming.”

The girl also went around the city singing, and in a moment, she happily shouted, “Swami Krishna has come.”

The devotee said, “I don’t see anyone anywhere.”

The girl immediately said to Krishna:

“Kanha, why don’t you show yourself to my Gurunath?”.

Krishna said:

“Your Gurunath sings my kirtans only for his own livelihood. There is no devotion, bhawa, or love in it. That is why I will never be visible to his eyes.”

The girl told her Guru exactly what Krishna had said.

To that, the devotee said, “I am your Guru, and somehow please make me see Krishna.” He pleaded with the girl.

Naughty Krishna, hearing what the Guru said, said to the girl:

“Sing, my friend. I will break the strings while dancing in your song. I will  do it in a way that his eyes can see. Tell him to watch it and make himself happy. I am doing this because you asked me so kindly. Sing.”

The girl also told the Guru what Krishna had said.

He also said, “Okay, you sing, this sinner will atleast see that.”

As soon as the girl started singing, he saw the strings falling off on their own.

The devotee was immediately ecstatic and apologized to Krishna for his mistake, greeted the girl, and went down the street singing.

Now his hands did not beg for anything.

Krishna would be bound only by devotion.

Sri Krishna, I take refuge in your feet.  Sarvam Sri Krishnaarpanam.
