Ujjayini Mahakaleshwar – Story

Ujjayini Mahakaleshwar – Story

The place where the Lord Shiva gave salvation to a funeral ground assistant and his wife.

The Basmarthi Abhishek is held at Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain every morning at 4.00 am.

A human body that has died a natural death is cremated and the ashes are used for Abhishek.

This Abhishek is not done anywhere else in India.

This Abhishek signifies that Lord Shiva is eternal and the soul whose ashes are used for Abhishek is not reborn.

Even if you go to Ujjain, you will not be able to see this. Because there is a crowd for a distance of 2 kilometers.

A funeral ground assistant found a Shiva Linga while digging a hole for a dead body.

When he took it to the king, the king mockingly said:

“Keep what you found in the crematorium and perform Abhishek with the ashes of the crematorium.”

That funeral assistant, who did not know what worship was, did not know that the king’s words were mocking, and he anointed the Shivalinga with the ashes of the cremated body.

One day, due to a sudden rain, all the ashes in the crematorium melted.

He, feeling sorry that there was no ash to anoint the Shivalinga, lit a fire and said to his wife:

“I am going to fall into this fire. Use the ashes that will be obtained from the burning of my body to anoint the Shivalinga.”

But his wife said, “If you die like this, the dead bodies that come here for cremation will not be cremated. So, I will jump into the fire myself,”

She then fell into the fire.

Impressed by the devotion of both of them, Lord Shiva appeared in a special form with Parvati, revived his wife, and saved both of them.

Hearing this, the king also felt regret that the Lord, who had anointed the golden Shivalinga with Rose water, Panchamirth and other aromatic substances, had granted salvation to the one who had given him cremation ashes and old rice.

He realized that devotion does not flourish in luxury but only in love.
