Life is Impermanent – Story!

Life is Impermanent – Story!

In an instant, the entire palace of Hastinapura became bustling. Krishna is going to come in a short while!

The news has just come from the servant who came from Dwaraka.

Yuthishtra hurriedly came to the gate of the palace to meet and welcome Krishna.

Arjuna, Bhima, Nakula, Kuntidevi, and Draupati, along with their companions, had already arrived at the gate to welcome him.

But before Krishna arrived, another person came to the palace gate. He was a beggar.

He extended his hand towards Yuthishtra with the intention of receiving some alms.

Yuthishtra was irritated.

Is this the time to welcome a beggar and offer him something? Isn’t our Lord Krishna coming to visit? We are waiting to worship the God. Who is this beggar during the worship time.

“Go and come tomorrow. I will give you something. No one here has time to entertain you today. We are waiting for a rare guest.”

The beggar moved away with a sigh after hearing Yuthishtra’s words. A hint of disappointment was clearly visible on his face.

In a short time, Krishna arrived with a flute in his hand and a smile on his lips.

Upon seeing him, Kunti devi’s face, as a mother seeing her son, and Draupati’s face, as a sister seeing her brother, blossomed like a lotus.

They welcomed Krishna with full kumbh and took him inside the palace.

Krishna hurriedly called Bhima.

“Bhima! Immediately arrange to announce the news to all the people of the country! It is urgent. The news is about Yuthishtra!”

Bhima effortlessly lifted the decorated Drum on his shoulder and placed it in front of Krishna. Yuthishtra was astonished.

“What news about me are you telling me, Krishna?”

“Today you have conquered time. Hasn’t the news of your victory reached your ears yet? It’s funny. A victory without the victor knowing it? Shouldn’t all the people know about that victory about you? Before that, let us all listen to that news with our ears. Bhima! Yuthishtra has conquered time!”

Bhima had no idea what kind of trick Krishna was going to play. But it was wise to listen to him as he said. Whatever Kannan thought would happen, it would happen!

Bhima slapped the drum and shouted, “Today our brother has conquered time!”

Arjuna, Nakula, Sahadeva, Kunti Devi, and Draupati also heard the slogan with amazement. They also did not know what was happening.

Yuthishtra stopped Bhima and asked Krishna:

“Have I conquered time? Have I?”

“Yes. I came to know the sentence you said to the beggar who came here a while ago. It was through that sentence that I came to know the truth that you have conquered time.”

“I did not say anything special to him, did I? I just told him to go and come tomorrow and then I will give you alms!”

Krishna laughed.

“Ah… what a subtle speech! Only the one who has conquered time can utter such a wonderful sentence!”

“What does this sentence have to do with conquering time?” Yuthishtra asked.

“You have conquered tomorrow, Yuthishtra! Think about it. If that beggar wants to come tomorrow, he must first be alive tomorrow. It is not to say that he will be a poor man who will beg from you tomorrow too. If God blesses him, he may become very rich by tomorrow. What is the certainty that his mind, which thought that he could beg today, will be with the thought that he can beg tomorrow too? Okay. You said that you will give tomorrow? What guarantee is there that you will be there tomorrow? Do you really believe that the wealth that you have to give today will remain with you until tomorrow? In this impermanent world, if an impermanent person says to another impermanent person that he will come tomorrow, he has conquered time.”

Yuthishtra’s mind was ashamed of what he had just said.

“Forgive me, Kanha! I spoke in a hurry and lost my temper!”

Krishna looked at Kunti intently and said to Yuthishtra:

“But, even in a hurry, Karna will not turn away those who come to him for alms. He will immediately give whatever he has in his hand! He is a generous person born to give to others.”

Yuthishtra said in a pleading voice:

“From now on, I will also try to imitate Karna’s generosity, Kanha! You must grant me such a good quality!”

“It is customary for younger brothers to imitate the qualities of their elder brothers. All your four younger brothers imitate your qualities. But you say that you imitate Karna’s qualities? What is he, your brother? Do you want to imitate his character?”

After asking this, Krishna looked at Kunti.

Kunti sat silently, her head bowed, without saying anything. Tears were in her eyes! Krishna calmed her down with his eyes, and then spoke softly to Yuthishtra:

“War is coming, Yuthishtra! Loss of life is inevitable in war! There will be a lot of sacrifices on both sides. At the end of the war, there is no telling who will die and who will live. This body is the sheath that holds the sword called the soul! Considering this body as permanent, you asked that beggar to come tomorrow! If Yuthishtra, who knows all the dharmas, thinks like this, what can you say about ordinary humans? It is the law of the world that those who were there yesterday are not here today. Do not wait for the day to do good things. Do not waste time. Do it immediately.”

Not only Yuthishtra, but everyone bowed and listened to this divine nectar-like teaching of Kannan.

Yuthishtra humbly asked:

“It is human nature to make mistakes, isn’t it, Kanha? I have realized the mistake I have made. I want to correct it. If by your grace you make that beggar who went back in boredom come here now, I will be satisfied by giving him what I can!”

“What’s the point? If you tell him to come, it’s enough! If you go to the palace gate, you will find the same beggar!”

Hearing Krishna’s words, everyone went to the palace gate. But Krishna did not go with them.

No one knew that he had disappeared.

As Krishna had said, the beggar was standing at the palace gate again.

Only Kunti Devi examined the beggar who had come again with her sharp eyes.

“This is your job since your Vamana incarnation. Have you not given up begging yet? Haven’t we heard that you are not getting enough from begging these days, and that you have started stealing milk and butter?”

Everyone laughed hysterically.

The beggar had a peacock feather on his head and a flute in his hand!

“Oh my God! You who appeared in the form of a beggar to make me realize the impermanence of life! What else do I have to offer you except my heart!”

Said Yuthishtra, his eyes filled with devotion.
