Rules to help others! Should we help or allow them to face karma?
A male devotee (Name hidden) asked like this:
“Hare Krishna Prabhuji, Prabhuji I wanted to share a problem which I am facing in my life. Prabhuji I cannot see people suffer. Like, I know there are some lessons that I know people need to learn by experience but it’s like my heart doesn’t agree. I feel that if I know they are going to fall in the well, why should I let them and I go beyond and above for my friends to help them. And this sometimes causes me to get categorised as a person who gives a lot of lecture and stuff and they don’t listen. And when I am wrong (which I feel is rare) people say that you think you know everything but u don’t. I don’t know how to deal with this nature of mine.”
REPLY:
Everything is decided by karma.
One can get help from others only if he is destined to get help from others.
So, you can’t decide whether to help or not.

If you are destined to help someone, you will be forced to help him.
An appropriate situation will come from which you can’t escape from helping others.
Similarly, other person too can’t escape from seeking your help if he is destined to get help from you.
A billionaire is proud that he does not have any need to respect others because he can buy anything he needs.
One day, his kidneys faced a severe problem and the doctors advised him for kidney transplantation.
He was ready to spare any amount for that. But, getting a donor was delayed because his blood group is rare.
So, he had to beg thru advertisements in the news papers.
However, before getting a fitting donor, he died.
This is karma.

He had money. But, he had no karma of getting a help in right time from others.
In the year 2019, I had some issues related to pumping of my heart.
The doctors declared that I may die at any time.
All my relatives came and cried.
But, the pumping improved from the third day and I escaped at that time.
Of course, I have to take maintenance tablets till my last breath.
However, the death did not happen as expected in 2019.
This is karma.
My father, who was an astrologer, said on an ekadasi that he won’t be alive on the next ekadasi.
He seemed okay till 8AM of next ekadasi.

Suddenly he faced difficulty in breathing and died at around 8.30AM on ekadasi.
Everything is fixed by the karma network.
When we will take birth, what we have to face in that birth and when we will die – everything is fixed.
So, if you see someone suffer, try to give him any support. But, don’t develop attachments or feelings related to that person.
Next, the most important advice:
Never help someone unless you are asked to help them. If you voluntarily help them, they may develop some motives for your offer.
However, in the case of emergency, you need not expect them to ask and evaluate the rules to help others. You should give hands immediately.
For example, if you see someone getting hit by a vehicle on road, will you wait till he seeks your help?
No. You should give your support immediately and save him.
At the same time, if you see someone is suffering with loans, you need not voluntarily offer money to him to clear that loan. You should help only if he seeks your help explaining his eligibility to get your help. If you help without asking, he may not repay that amount as he may not know its value.
Thus, we have to decide differently in different situations.
So, in your case, just try to help others if they seek your help and if they are sincere in life. Help voluntarily on emergencies.
Another beautiful example to understand this helping concept:
I will never help a drinker if he seeks any money from me telling lies. But, if his wife or children, who are suffering with his drunken tortues seek any help, I won’t refuse because they are affected people and are eligible to get our support.

This is the formula I follow in helping others after facing many disappointments by helping some people without evaluating properly.
So, follow my recommended rules to help others. You will be safe.
Don’t bother for others. You are not a king. You can’t help all the citizens. Even a king can’t help all his people.
Another formula is: If you want to help more people, Earn more and spend a part of your earning for genuinely suffering people.
The general advice for all types of help is that you should never help others expecting some benefits or even respect from others. It won’t clear your karma.
Help just as a duty thinking that Krishna has been keeping you wealthy just to support genuinely suffering persons.
Are you now clear about the Rules to help others?
