My friend says Krishna has no form and We have no rebirth as per Bhagavad Gita.  What to reply?

“A Girl devotee (Name hidden)”  asked like this:

Hello myself Deepika.  Am a devotee of lord krishna and shiva.  I have a  friend from another religion (I have hidden).  We used to discuss about Bhagavad gita,  their holy book and teachings of various saints often. once he said following verses in bhagavadgita:

Bhagavad gita 7-24:         “the ignorant believe that un-manifest para brahma incarnates or takes manifestations because they do not completely understand my highest, immutable, incomparable and transcendental existence”

Bhavad gita 7:19-21:      “All those who do idol worship, all those who worship demigods are materialistic people”

and then he continued, so by doing pooja to god idols i think you are going against bhagavad gita. then he asked me do you believe in rebirth?. For that, i replied yes i believe.    then he said that you are contradicting with bhagavad gita.

Really i cant answer him properly for any of his question. will u please explain me is it really Iam going against Bhagavad gita by worshiping idols in home and temple?    and also i want to know about rebirth. could i believe in reincarnation?

REPLY:

Good question that gave me chance to rewind Bhagavad Gita again.

It is better not to argue with that friend who is from another religion.  Because, he has fixed a mindset and is arguing with you.  if you argue with him, it may end in misunderstandings, splits and offenses.  So, better say SORRY, I DON’T WANT TO HURT ANYONE and leave the place.

However, as you have asked to me, let me clear your doubt just for your knowledge, not for arguing with that friend.

Actually, he is wrong.  How can he say that believing rebirth is against Bhagavad Gita?  Let me give an example for that:

Krishna Himself says in the whole SECOND CHAPTER about how the soul changes from one body to another, that is “Entry of athma from one body to another” that we usually call as  “rebirth”.

In B.G 2-27 , Krishna VERY CLEARLY says:   “One who has taken birth is sure to die;  and after death, one is sure to take birth again.  Therefore in the unavoidable discharge of your duty, you should not lament.”

In B.G 2.22,  Bhagawan again says VERY CLEARLY:  “As a person puts on new garments, giving up old ones, the soul similarly accepts new material bodies, giving up old and useless ones.”

So, the soul is eternal and has no birth or death.  But, usually, rebirth is considered as the birth and death of body.  So, a soul takes new bodies that we call as rebirth.  This mean the ENTRY OF OF ATHMA in ANOTHER BODY.

And, as said by him/ her, Krishna does not tell that He has no form in B.G 7-19-21.  In 7-21, He just says that He is present in everyone’s heart as supersoul, ie, paramathma.

Lord takes three forms for the maintenance of this material world.  One among them is PARAMATHMA.  This does not mean that He has no forms.  He is existing as Paramathma also.  That’s all.  That person has not at all understood Bhagavad Gita properly.  That is why Bhagavad Gita must be learnt from a learnt person.

That friend has written the B.G 7.24 also wrongly, in fact, contrarily as if Lord is impersonal.   In fact, that verse calls your friend as UNINTELLIGENT PERSON.  See that actual verse here:

The B.G 7-24 actually says:      “Unintelligent men, who know Me not, think that I have assumed this form and personality. Due to their small knowledge, they do not know My higher nature, which is changeless and supreme.”

Srila Prabhupada explains in his purport:  (Some relevant parts given.)

“Lord Krsna in His personal form is here speaking before Arjuna, and still, due to ignorance,  impersonalists argue that the Supreme Lord ultimately has no form.  Yamunacarya, a great devotee of the Lord in the disciplic succession from Ramanujacarya, has written two very appropriate verses in this connection. …………  In the Brahma-samhita it is stated that the Personality of Godhead cannot be understood simply by study of the Vedanta literature. Only by the mercy of the Supreme Lord can the Personality of the Supreme be known………….. In the Srimad-Bhagavatam it is stated that supreme realization begins from the impersonal Brahman and then rises to the localized Supersoul–but the ultimate word in the Absolute Truth is the Personality of Godhead.

Modern impersonalists are still less intelligent, for they do not even follow their great predecessor, Sankaracarya, who has specifically stated that Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Impersonalists, therefore, not knowing the Supreme Truth, think Krsna to be only the son of Devaki and Vasudeva, or a prince, or a powerful living entity.

This is also condemned in the Bhagavad-gita (9.11): Avajananti mam mudha manusim tanum asritam: “Only the fools regard Me as an ordinary person.”

The fact is that no one can understand Krsna without rendering devotional service and without developing Krsna consciousness. The Gita confirms this………….It is clear herein that the Supreme Absolute Truth, Lord  Krsna, has both form and personality.”

So, please neglect the views of that friend who belongs to another religion and is trying to analyze Krishna.  Krishna can’t be understood by analytical approach.  He can be understood only by surendering to Him and doing His devotional services.

All his arguments are false.  You must have been clear now.
