Was Bhagavad Gita spoken by Krishna or a man made book?

Kiran Gajjar asked like this:

“Hare Krishna, I have good friends who follow different gods. I don’t take Onion amd Garlic food. So they ask me, where it is written. I told them that it is in Gitaji. They countered by saying “There is no proof of having gitaji written by God and actually is written by man.”

I felt bad about the statement. I want to put a strong point so that they also believe the Existence of Gitaji. Please help me for the same.”

REPLY:

First of all, Krishna has indirectly said that one should avoid onion, garlic etc., mentioning them as Rajo and thamo guna foods.

That Post link has been given HERE.

Now, they ask whether Bhagavad Gita was spoken by Krishna Himself or any other person just as a scripture.

We believe that Krishna is the Supreme God.

Now, catch this sequence:

(i) Mahabharatha has been proved to have happened from the archiological studies and some independent researches.  In fact, the dwaraka palace itself has been identified and brought out.

(ii) During Dwaraka’s last period, Krishna was ruling that place as said by Mahabharatha.

(iii) So, it is proved that it was the palace that belongs to Krishna as the king.

(iv) Mahabharatha says that Krishna mediated the Pandavas and Kauravas to avert the war.  Mahabharatha also explains many incidents in which Krishna proved that He is not a man.

Eg: Hiding the sunlight itself at His will;  Explaining to Draupati even before the start of war about the disaster to be caused by the war in which all except the Pandavas WILL die, including their child;

Krishna is the controller of Karma who knows the karma of everyone of us, He could forecast the outcome of the war exactly, even without referring the horoscopes of thousands of the warriors. A man can not do so.

(v) Only because He is the Supreme God, He saved the dignity of Draupati even without coming to the palace, by supplying unlimited length of saree when she was stripped. Can a man do so?

(vi) Only because Krishna is the Supreme God, He ate just a single grain that had been left uncleaned in the vessel that made the rishis feel no hunger.

(vii) Krishna had known the secret behind the birth of Karna though He was not present at the time when Karna was left on the waters of river after the birth.

(viii) In Bhagavad Gita, Krishna has used the word “Me” “I” and have explained His viboodhis. Eg:  Among rudras, I am Siva.

In no place, Krishna has said that He is the representative of God or He is an acharya.

Krishna has clearly claimed that He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and Paramathma.

So, it is clear that Krishna is the God.

(ix) The claim that Bhagavad Gita was spoken by a man, not god  is baseless, because Arjuna surrenders ONLY TO Krishna who is the God, and requests Him to preach the dharma to be followed by him at that moment. Only after that, Krishna started to speak Bhagavad Gita.

So, Arjuna requested the God only, not a man.

(x) Finally, Krishna proved Arjuna that He is the Supreme Lord by showing His Vishvarup darshan to Arjuna.

Therefore, the comments of your friends are baseless.

There is no need for doubt whether Bhagavad Gita was spoken by Krishna or a man.

That is why, Krishna said in 18.67 that this secret knowledge should not be told to envious people.
